| | I have one that I paid a ittle over 2000$ for on ebay - and I think it was worth it. A wonderfully sounding and playing guitar. It can really not be compared to the cheaper archtop guitars that Epiphone puts out (i still own an Epi Joe Pass and an Epi ES175 from my startup phase - these are ok guitars once the pickups are replaced, but they totally pale in comparison to the Elitist Byrdland). Everything in this instrument says "quality". I doubt that the Gibson version is much better (for still more than three times the price) |

| | I spoke with a fellow who had a couple of Gibson Byrdlands, and an Epiphone Elitist Byrdland. I asked him how they compared. He said the Epi Byrdland keeps up nicely with the Gibson version.
I put Lindy Fralin humbuckers in my Epi Elitist Byrdland, but the stock humbuckers were fine (I still have them). |

| | These apparently are in a different league from the more pedestrian Epis... Live and learn.
Thanks for the extra info. |

"Blow out" pricing for these was around $1600 when the big retailers cleared them out a few years ago. Prior to that, $1700 - $2K was typical pricing. Now that they're not made anymore, they almost always go for more than $2K on eBay (one went as high as $2600 last year). The very last new one to sell in Canada sold for $2800 at the 12th Fret in Toronto. |

| | I've had a few of the Elite series...Broadway, Les Paul, and SG. All were very nice guitars. My only gripe was the finish. They were done very well, but I prefer nitro over poly. |
