| | Amp with USB Hello,
I am considering buying a Fender Passport 500 PA at least in part because it has a USB port that can record .wav files to a flash drive. Does anybody know it there is a guitar amp with a similar option?
Brad

| | If you have shops where you can try out gear where you live, you could try the Fender Passport with an external preamp/DI box like the very versatile Sansamp ParaDriver DI or one of Sansamps "Character" series preamp pedals (of which the "Blonde", mimicking Fender amps, may be the most appropiate for jazz). Many get good results from those small preamp/DI Pedals/boxes with a powered PA speaker or directly into a PA system. The ParaDriver has been called the "Swiss Army Knife" of sound, and I find that term fitting.
I can't see from Fenders specs whether the Passport provides Phantom Power in the XLR input jacks (if it doesn't, they really missed something), but if it does the Sansamp ParaDriver takes Phantom Power and can be powered via the XLR cable, so one can omit the annoying 9V "wall wart" and its flimsy cable. The Sansamp "character" preamp pedals has to be fed via a "wall wart" or with a battery.
Normally I use my ParaDriver with an AI amp head and a Redstone speaker, but I have also tried it with a diminutive and very cheap Behringer powered PA amp. Dispite the seemingly obvious, it actually worked quite well, but of course with the 5" speaker it was not like the sound from a Twin reverb. However, with a bigger and better PA speaker like the Passport, it should be just fine.

| | Just though I would inform you that you can buy guitar-usb interfaces for next to nothing. https://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=guit...w=1525&bih=754
That way you can do the same with ANY amp. |

I have a D-Tar Solstice preamp with XLR out that I would use as well. Really just curious about the availability of a guitar amp with the same recording capabilities.

Brad | Ah sorry. I misunderstood that one But I'm still thinking there must me some kind of device (a usb flash harddisc recorder) that can acheive this with any amp. Dunno? Just don't like the idea of choosing amp because of this feature. |

Brad | In that case, the Passport may by just fine by itself. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
