Default Where do you keep your guitar(s)?

So I was thinking today... and I realized that I usually grab my acoustic guitar because it's more easily accessible than my Gibson archtop, which is locked up in a case. I thought that maybe mounting it on the wall would work. Is there any reason not to do this? What do all of you do for your guitar storage?

I have one of these and one regular stand for my four guitars

ROCKSTAND RS 20870B TRIPLE GUITARSTAND - Thomann Cyberstore Português

I used to have them in a case but it's actually not good for the guitars and I like seeing them - although I play 99% of the time with the archtop only.

Mine rotate between their cases, 2 wall hangers, and a floor stand. It just depends on which one's getting the most love at the time.

My archtop of the moment hangs on one of these:

Ready to play.

May be keep them all in a case then it equalizes the effort to pick out a guitar to play. Or hanging them all up has the same effect.

My luthier recommended me to have the guitars out because it would be good for them. I have read people like to have their guitars out so it motivates them to play but taking a guitar out of it's case never seemed to be that hard-working for me so it never stopped me from playing

I usually keep my archtop in the case when not playing it, and I keep my el cheapo acoustic out on the stand so I can quickly grab it to noodle or practice if a mood sporatically hits me.

Since it has been mentioned a couple of times, what kind of damage is supposedly being done by keeping them in the case all the time?

It's good for the wood and the strings to have the guitar outisde according to my luthier - but I don't think it will damage your guitar to have it in a case as long as you take it outisde every once in a while.

If they're kept in a humid environment, keep them OUT of a case, if in rather dry air, keep them in a case with a humidifier. That said, you're much more likely to grab one that's out when you have a short while to play. For a solid body, I'd always leave it out. With a high end acoustic, be more careful; a flat top being most likely to crack, the top of course but also rosewood sides and back. A flat top is a much more delicate structure overall than an arch.

My house is very dry and has an open layout. Rather than humidify the whole house, I keep the guitars humidified in heir cases over he winter months. I have to check the humidifiers regularly, I all get played often. Better safe than sorry.

I have mine hanging on the wall. They're ready to play and look great.

Is the conventional wisdom that humidity is not an issue for solid body guitars?

Some hang on the wall , some are in racks . One archtop and one acoustic are in stands by my chair for easy access . The studio in my house is climate controlled , so it's not an issue leaving them out .

Mostly on the wall. The instruments that are in cases frequently offer up a surprise when I open them up. Kinda like, "Oh, I thought I sold that".

In our study, we have a floor-to-ceiling self-assembly Swedish Flat-Pack (DON'T MAKE ME SAY IT!) sheling unit. I assembled it (eventually, don't ask ) with the shelves grouped towards the top and enough room at the bottom to fit my guitars.

One stays out on a stand (for playing, but looks good in the room), the rest in cases. Funnily enough, the one that looks best (Washburn acoustic) is not the guitar that I use most round the house, which kind of defeats the object.....but there you go.

Mine stay on stands for easy access. They only go in the cases if they leave the house.

I'm for out-of-case. It's safer locked away but then so is everything, just not as much fun and gives you no pleasure to look at.

Worth remembering thought that the rubberised/foam on many floor stands and hangers is damaging to nitro cellulose finishes that are on many archtops.

All of my guitars, solid bodies, semi-hollows and arch tops are sitting on *On Stage Flip It Stands* in my study . . . (I really need a man cave!!). As I conduct my daily business either on the tele or on line, the guitars are readily available for me to look at and enjoy their beauty . . which is a large part of the joy I derive from owning them . . . as well as readily available for me to reach out and grab which ever of them is crying out to me, wanting to be held, caressed and played. On Stage Flip It Stands are nitro friendly and almost impossible to knock over. I live in Central NJ, so our temps in the winter can get pretty cold. My home is heated with forced warm air . . . so I have an *April Air* whole house humidifier on the furnace/air handler. My study also has a floor humidifier and a ceiling fan to ensure consistent relative humidity throughout the entire room. RH fluctuates between 45% to 50% . . . temps are pretty consistent at 68 to 70 degrees. All of my guitars are always "happy" and very rarely need truss rod adjustments.

I hate keeping guitars in cases, other than to transport them.

He-he . . . I wasn't even thinking about a tele when I typed in tele. But, I can certainly understand how you could interpret my mention of a tele as meaning that I was talking about a tele. Just to be clear . . . I was talking about a tele, not a tele.

Those I play regularly in the house are on stands, the others are in their cases. I have never noticed it meant any difference to the tone or the setup whether the guitars were in cases or out of them. When my son was a small boy and was playing on the floor, I kept the guitars in the cases, but that's not needed now (but maybe will be again when we have grandchildren some day). I have never used humidifiers of any form. I must say, though, that I live in a temperate costal climate, and we don't have extreme humidity and temperature fluctuations here. If we had, it may have been a different matter.
