Just bought this 10years old beauty in a mint condition - works perfectly with polytone Mini-Brute!!!

Firstfully I was affraid that this guitar is all laminated, but all doubts were gone with first chords. It sounds great even unplugged.

Glad for you, Marcis. These are great guitars. I've owned a couple over the years. Enjoy.

I have been trying to find an Aria Herb Ellis for quite a while. I wish I could afford a Gibson Herb Ellis. I never use the bridge pickup so I now only buy single pickup guitars when possible. Very jealous of both the guitar and the amp. Swing hard and groove easy with those new toys.

I have the Herb Ellis signature Gibson. I'll never be able to part with it for two reasons:

1: It was my first archtop
2: It has a beautiful unique sound. Perfect for bebop.

I agree it sounds a bit like the ES-175, but I find it has a brighter more twangy sound. I've strung mine with Infeld Bebop .13's. Of course it'll sound different if you string it with other strings, but it always has its personality intact.
I find that the guitar makes a "plonk" sound easily if you pick too hard. Anyone else noticed that?

I havent noticed the plonk. I find it sounded like a typical 175 (I couldnt tell the difference) until I replaced the TOM with an ebony bridge.

I absolutely love/hate mine!! LOL

Congratulations

Very nice! I'm glad you found one of the older ones with the set pickup... they sound noticeably better to my ear. Have fun!

I know you're not asking me, but I've swapped out TOMs for Ebony or Rosewood on several guitars because I like the darker sound of wood. It helps produce more of what I think of as a "Jazz tone". Of course it depends on what you want to hear, but a wood saddle sounds woodier... a metal saddle sounds more metallic.
