Default Flanger?? Really??????

So I have been playing with some different amp modelers (pocket pod as well as amplitube/garageband/JamUp)

I find they all lack a certain warmth and fullness but I am still playing with the settings. The one that surprised me (and sounded pretty good) was a preset call Four on Six on the Pocket pod.

Trying to get that tone on IPhone I found the secret ingredient. Flanger with the dwell and rate and mix set to Min. When it kicks in you can hear it.. just barely.. but it is there. Chorus doesnt do it.

Anyone else user flanger? I always thought it was one of those things from the 80s that people try to trade away when they want a real pedal

i have a Foxrox Paradox TZF for flanging duties. a flanger, like a chorus, is basically a very small delay. or, in the case of the TZF, two very tiny delays. you can cover a lot of ground with a flanger, and not just the overprocessed sounds of the late 70s and 80s.

With effect pedals, there's no religion , just use the ones that suit your taste.
In the eighties, I bought a semi hollow and a wah pedal when these were not fashionable at all for rock, but who cares? I still can remember the vendors face, and the numerous shops I had to pop in to find my stuff.

To go back to effect pedals, eventhough a Chorus is theorically a very specific effect, not all chorus nor flanger stompboxes sound the same.

Funny...my Digitech GNX2 has a flanger setting that I've been messing around with lately. It's been years since I've used (or wanted to use) a flanger and now I'm kind of digging the sound again. I agree, a minimum setting is the best.
