Can't afford?? Cm'on! I have my personal vision on price of guitars: you buy a handmade archtop from a good luthier for 4000€ and you keep it for the rest of your life (hopefully a loooooong time). On the other hand: you spend 10000€ on a new small car that probably will be worn out in 5 years. And you can't really enjoy a small car, right?

Now seriously: an archtop guitar is something you buy and keep or can probably sell for quite some money. And hand carved solid wood archtops are getting better over time (in terms of tone...). In addition, if you buy such a beauty, you will play more, and so get better. It's all win!

Just a thought.

Mark is one of the best builders around.

I have the oval hole custom that's in his gallery (quilted maple back).

They will have to pry that guitar from my cold dead hands when I go.

Man, this sort of stuff has to stop!! This is the third keyboard I've had to replace this month from drooling over these gorgeous instruments

Seriously - these guitars give me something to shoot for, and also help my playing - makes me work harder to able to be able to play them worthily. When I can afford one!

I have sold 13 guitars in the past couple of months! I'm totally on a roll.

Seriously, these Campellones are very appealing indeed. But thanks for the reminder to get back to playing what I've got.

I have a Campellone Special that I commissioned a couple of years ago. Mark was great to work with it. The guitar is absolutely stunning to look at & play.

Here's a couple of videos I did of me doing some chord style playing with it, no amplification or special mic'ing, just the mic in my webcam. I haven't made any new
videos in a while, but I need to.

I also have a Campellone Standard that I commisioned directly from Mark. It was completed in March 2010 and I had the pleasure of picking it up at Mark's workshop. Mark was great to work with and even took the time to send me photos of each step of the building process. I am still amazed that he is able to create these world class instruments at what I consider to be a very reasonable price. Here is a link to the build process of my Campellone Standard:

You Campellone owners are lucky indeed! I am an admirer of his work. He is one of the few guys who is a.) trying to capture the magic of the great L-5s, b.) keeping the prices reasonable, c.) creating an original guitar and d.) not just copying Benedetto or "the book."

Pascal, can you comment: there's a thin strip of wood joining the two sides of the top. (On the inside.) Why is that? I've never seen it on an L-5 or any archtop, including the other Campellone pictures just posted.
