Default Fret Size

Hi,

I have question that has been nagging me for a while now. I am going to be making a warmoth guitar (a tele style guitar) and need to decide what fret size to order.
As a reference i am wanting to get something that feels somewhat like my gibson Les paul custom. I am trying to find what fret size is on the les paul but all i cant seem to find the actual measurements online anywhere.
Does anybody know what frets are used on these les pauls?

The guitar is a Custom Shop Les Paul Custom. its quite a modern model built in 2006.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

This may help (but then again, you probably have already seen this page):

the last time I had a LP custom, it had the standard LP/335 gibson frets on it ( .102 x .036 - stewmac 146, I think) rather than the very low ''fretless wonder'' frets they originally used, where you almost played the wood rather than the fret. They are still relatively low by current gibson jazz guitar ( e.g. L5, 175) fret standards, which tend to use .086 x .046 frets.
The higher ( .046) frets have quite a different feel - not as fast, but a more ''solid'' note. Maybe the best thing is to try out those 2 different fret sizes in advance on different guitars if you can, to see which you prefer, before ordering.

Default LP Fretwire

I posed this very same question directly to Gibson. They got back to me right away. Here are the specs, straight from the horse's mouth:

Hello Bob,

Thanks for writing! The fretwire we use on all of the USA Les Pauls measures:
Height- .055"
Width- .090"
The material is nickel/silver alloy.
Thanks for the inquiry, and I hope this helps!

Best regards,
Benton Cummings

Wow, thanks guys.
I don't post much on this site, but i read the threads almost everyday. I knew if i posted this question here someone would know

BTW, anybody fretted a Telecaster with Dunlop 6000 frets. I read that Jimmy Herring has those fitted on his strat.
Was thinking a Telecaster with a flatter 12" radius fretboard or compound 12"-16" fretboard with 6000 frets could be cool.
Anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks

Has anyone with fretting hand and/or fretting arm issues traced the problem to fret size? I find playing a guitar with jumbo frets causes almost no stress to my fretting hand/arm, while mini-jumbo frets (mainly acoustic and classical guitars) causes me major problems.

I have a Warmoth Tele neck with stainless frets and their compound radius. I developed a love for stainless frets from years of playing my Parker. Highly recommended.
