Default What kind of delay?

What type is the delay here? Tape or Analog? This is from around 1967-68. This kind of delay seems to have very much space. Maybe a reverb was also included?

The solo starts at 3:25, the guitar volume is louder in that part, so listen to that to evaluate:

I would say analog delay, with a good level of feed back and wet signal.

In !967 I would say it was a tape unit like an echoplex, a fender echo unit with a disc in an oil canister, or it could be an echo chamber in the recording studio. There really weren't any delay pedals back then.

It could also have been done after the recording. I remember my old B&O reel tape recorder. With that, I could record something and then make a delay like effect by using the sound-on-sound in a particular way (I don't remember how, I haven't used the tape recorder for 25 years).

Those of you who are as old as me may remember Jørgen Ingmann's great hit "Apache" from around 1960 (The Shadows also made their version of it). It used the same kind of delay effect which was added after the recording. It was very advanced for its time.

Default I guess I'm from that time too

I loved that song then and I find myself even now still playing parts of it.
I use "Apache" to find whether I like the sound ofa particular effect or not.
Sorry to get off track on this thread.

"Apache!" Yes! It's right up there with, "Walk Don't Run," and, "Rebel Rouser!"

Here is Apache from 1961 with Jørgen Ingmann:

Jorgen Ingmann - Apache - Original - 1961.wmv - YouTube

It was also recorded by The Shadows. Some say before Ingmann's version, but Ingmann's record was out first on the market and it became a Top 10 hit in USA. If I remember right, The Ventures also recordd it. Duane Eddy played it at concerts, but I don't know if he recorded it.

Jørgen Ingmann is Danish like myself, so of course his version is the best .

Ingmann is still alive, 86 years old, but he stopped playing many years ago due to stage phobia and the increasingly crappy material he was given to play by his record company. He started out as a talented and elegant jazz guitarist. He played for a number of years with the Danish jazz violin player Svend Asmussen before going on his own with studio records which was inspired by Les Paul's trick recordings. Besides his Les Paul and ES 350 guitars, a customized tape recorder was used. It was very advanced for its time. We had never before heard anything like it in Denmark.

Thank you for the suggestions. It is possible that it was only an echo effect, not a delay pedal back in those days.

But I doubt the effect was added after the recording. Simply because on other songs from this CD from the same atrist, it happens that the echo is an integral part of the rythm, I doubt the soloist would have left a gap there for adding an echo later.
