Default Humbucker vs Single Coil

I have a wonderful-playing, Aria ProII FA70. I am in the process of upgrading all electronics. For pickup choices I am looking at either mounted full humbuckers or mounted, humbucker-sized single blade, single-coil pickups (maybe a combination). I am looking for a warm tone, but am intrigued with the "edginess" of a single-coil choice. My concern is noise, especially in a jazz box. What are the pros and cons of using a single-coil pickup in a big-box guitar? BTW...in case it matters, I play through a Traynor tube amplifier. Thanks much...

Get a P-90!
I have a wonderful P-90 from Tom Short in California; I'm not sure if he would make a humbucker-sized version to fit your guitar, but call him and ask. I have NO NOISE with this pickup.

I have a blade from Pete Biltoft and it sings. It's warm and dark but has a crispness and clarity that I love. It's also very quiet and as smooooth as high quality dark chocolate. It slipped right into a hummer route with ease.

Pete is easy to work with and fast... highly recommended.

Default Appreciation

Thanks for the info...I love p90s, but I don't want to alter the guitar...these old Aria's have increased in value and I want to be able (if needed) to put everything back together as it was from the factory. I have been in contact with Biltoft. He sent me some mp4s...awesome tone! I appreciate your endorsements...I will probably go with his wide-area, single-coil, blade. Have a great weekend everyone!

Sounds like a cool plan, Cuzzintom.

+1

Also not mentioned is the fact that Pete gives you the choice of magnets for his pickups. The way they're constructed you can slip the new magnets with ease.
I chose the AlNico II and AlNico V magnets, The V is louder but the II's quite soft and sweet.
He gets mentioned here quite often and usually by 'The Usual Suspects' but they are great!
