Amps 80's Roland Supercube 1x15

Hi Everyone.

Its finally arrived. May i say what a great amp is seems at a first glance... And small for a 1x15.
A nasty rattle at the back of the cab on bass notes but i will take it apart and solve that.

I played a friends version of this amp and he had fixed his up a treat with new neo speaker, tolex, knobs and all the rest.
I cant help feeling that his sounded warmer so we will get together in the near future and do an A-B test and see what we come up with.

I was looking for a Ibanez wholetone as have loved playing with 15's in the past. I dont know whether its the mass of air moving but i just seem to get a warmer tone.....maybe its all in my head. After not being able to find one near me to try i opted for this and at £46, i think its a winner all round.

Just wanted to share my find realy. I am sure i will be tarting her up and i will keep you guys informed of my progress.

Thanks

You just got yourself a great amp at an incredible price. Much much better than new cubes... and an overall great amp! I am a huge fan of 80s solid state amps for their price / reliability / nice sound. Speaker and op-amps is usually where you can get improvements on these amps... Congratulations!

I played a tele-style guitar through an old orange cube 60 once and got an incredibly good jazz sound from it.

I think Ed Bickert used an Orange Cube with his Tele, too!

I meant the speaker upgrade for old Cubes.. not the new ones! Although I am sure people have tried that before, do a little googling!

Vic Juris uses this old cubes a lot and he seems to love them.

I have a Roland Super Cube 60 (1 x 12 inch). It looks virtually the same in appearance as benjazzman82's Super Cube.

I am in the process of building a new baffle (to be attached to the existing baffle) and I will be trying an Eminence L'il Buddy 10 inch) in it for starters.
I can easily change the amp back to stock.

Many of the 12 inch speakers I tried to put into it would not fit due to the shape of the outer flange of the speaker basket and/or the depth of the speaker in total. That was so frustrating !!

Cheers

Dave

I'm curious: was the Supercube 100 intended as a bass or as a guitar amp?

Either way, I love 15" combos! I've never seen this one in the flesh.

The SCL was the one voiced for guitar and the SCB was the bass one. There was a keys one but i forget what they called it. Mine is a Supercube SCL 100. Ill try and get some sound clips up soon.

Good luck finding a non-bass 15 neo speaker... What did you friend bought? If I were you I would look for a used EV-15 - it will cost you more than the amp and its heavy as well but I bet the amp would become perfect... I just love the EV-12, unfortunately never tried the 15.

Two that come to mind are:

Jenson Neo 15 (150W) : NEO15-150

Weber NeoMag 15: https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/

Oh didn't know that, great! Have a neo 12 in my jazzmaster ultralight and really like it, it might be a good option - and they are cheap.
