| | recomendations for Reverb/Delay Unit Last week I was under the great influence of John Abercrombie and we were talking and eating and hanging. The man is a wizard I think... either way he uses this old 80's stereo reverb/delay unit made by Boss.
Now, I'm not looking to try and cop anything from the man, but I'm thinking in a practical context that this might work out really great for me if I can find this so that I can have a more portable set up for when I am traveling (which is happening more now) and instead of having to bring some extra bag for wires and pedals and adaptors etc I would love to find something compact that sounds great and is reliable and runs a good stereo set up.
we've got a lot of gear nuts here, I am not really one. Lay on some suggestions, 2nd hand is good too I'd like to find something on ebay if possible.

| | Just to clarify, are you talking about a rackmounted unit that Abercrombie is using?
Also for the stereo effect, I assume that you are talking about a signal chain that goes...
Guitar--> Stereo Delay --> Amplifier A
-------------------------------> Amplifier B
Did I get that right? |

| | Vic Juris also uses one of those Boss units I think. The best thing in the market for that is a Nova System. Had one and sold it -its great but its big and has too many stuff I don't use. 99% of the time I just need tuner, delay and reverb - solved the tuner issue with an USB clip-on tuner that avoids the common battery problem on those tuners.
On the delay and reverb I have a TC flashback and a Hardwire RV-7, two small pedals. I bought two cheap and light adapators and its a much smaller and lighter setting than a nova system. |

| | So is the boss unit we are talking about a multi effect, a pedal, a rack mount?
I am also looking for something that I can use for delays and reverbs. I have been considering using a TC Electronics G Major, but I really don't want to carry around a rack.
Sidenote: Jorge how do you like the Flashback? |

| | I think the Nova System will cover most G-major territory no?
First time didn't liked it, don't know why. Second time loved it. Sounds as good as my Nova Repeater in a small 9v package. Has several delay options, 7 seconds delay maximum, true bypass, 9v, not expensive... I think its a winner. TC delays are usually good and this is no exception! But I just use the digital delay setting to give some air with a hall reverb... |

| | no it's nothing large, it was small, yeah Vic is using the same sort of unit, it's the size of a hardcover book (one with many pages). I'm not set on any one company, just looking for ideas. Boss is fine, they are reliable as far as I've seen in my own life. I'm not looking for anything advanced, I'm looking to compartmentalize without losing quality.
sounds like it might be too good to be true, but i'm confident I can get the sound I want on anything that wasn't made by morons |

danke | You may like the compact stompbox RV5 made by Boss or their anterior models made in the 80's & 90's. |

| How about a little back-story here? How did you come about hanging out with Abercrombie?? And you're right -- he is a wizard!

| | John and I first crossed paths about 4 years ago when he came to where I was studying for a week. I was able to spend a lot of time with him over that week, we played some, ate, hung out. I took him to the airport, got him lunch etc.
Now that I'm teaching myself full time we have the luxury of a nice artist budget and we offered him some money to come up and give a clinic and concert, which he did. We got to hang out for a couple of days, ate some nice food, had some good laughs etc.
He's a very nice man, easy to work with and an amazing artist.

im not so much into pedals but this sounds great, i like it because i can use it more like reverb, its analog true bypass...
also looking foward to see Abercrombie in Bosnia next month on Sarajevo Jazz Fest...cant imagine how awesome its to hang with the man

Kerim | yeah John said he was off to Europe with Mark Feldman and Joey Baron for 2 weeks, he was very much looking forward to it.
He's playing better then ever if I'm honest, you're in for a great performance! |

| | Do you mean one of these? BossArea - Boss SE-50 Stereo Effects Processor
I knew some guitar players in DK used them when I was still living there.
They are easy to come by for here in the Netherlands.
If you can take a half rack, can't you take a full rack size unit? that might give you more options and better quality.

| | that's pretty much what it is, I mean again I don't know the exact details, but all of these suggestions are excellent. I'm going to be looking online for these things, maybe see what is around in Toronto when I'm up there in a few weeks (more selection hehe) |

| | Maybe look for things made these days, technology evolved a lot. Two small pedals (like TC Toneprints) might just do the trick. |

| | +1 on getting something that is a bit more recent, digital units don't get better when they are vintage
I guess if you want more suggestions it might be useful to know what price range you have in mind?
The line6 M9 might be an option, I used a L6 PodXt with the amp sims off for a few years and it is quite ok for that.

| | Best reverb I've heard in person is the t-rex room mate. And for delay, the hardwire one is enough for jazz. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
