Technique Peerless monarch video

While watching Matt Otten's YouTube video, at 47 seconds in, and at 2:11, he palms the pick effortlessly. I come from the acoustic folk-blues-country thing and it is a big distinction whether a player is a flat picker or a finger-style player. I do both, but either/or. I tend to drop the pick or get off the beat trying to change. I may be posting on the wrong forum page with this, but the gear page is all I read. Any tips on pick juggling (other than practice it a thousand times)?

Brian Setzer talks about it in this video at about 50 seconds in:

Honestly i would think it might be something that just would happen naturally when you start switching between the two.

Hey, that's great what he does with the index finger-- using thumb, middle, and ring fingers for Travis picking. I've been trying to get the pick down to the ring finger of my right hand so I can pick with thumb, index, & middle fingers. I'll figure something out. I'm also trying to break a 40 year bad habit of anchoring my picky on the guitar while I play.
