Default 8" high powered speaker

I'm sorta building my own amp - tube mic preamp, small power amp. I want a small speaker for portability. Is there such a thing as a raw 8" speaker that could handle more than 15 watts? Or would it be better to go to a 10"? Specific models would be helpful. Thanks!

Eminence Beta 8A..225 watts?? that should do it......
Generally, the improvement in moving to a 10" model is more dramatic than any other size change. 8" speakers can sound very boxy unless in a cleverly designed, expensive closed back enclosure. Also, as a generalisation, 10" speakers are usually significantly louder for a given wattage.

Interesting what you said. One of the things that I love my jazzmaster ultralight is that the cab is very light but its a 12 cab (only flite cabs and lopo cabs seem to make something similar, although tube town was also able to make a custom order for me). So to get a cab that weights around 7 / 8 kgs its probably best to go for something like the JMUL cab than say something like a RS-8? Even if the RS-8 has a much better design the 12 speaker vs the 8 speaker will probably much more important no (assuming equal speakers if you want)?

I think there are two aspects:
-basic physics. A 8" will be typically 93db loudness @ 1 watt, a 12" maybe 98-100db. So, the 12 is much more efficient, allowing a lower power amp for the same volume.
-There simply are very few 8" speakers made with the same sound quality and definition than (eg) EVs, JBLs, Altecs, which came in 10s and 12s. Maybe Beyma, but that's all I know of.
Apparently there's an 8' cab called the chameleon which is supposed to be good. The RS cabs use Eminence 8's, which are Ok, but nothing like the quality of ( say) EV. I think they sound boxy & small, although some players like them. Personally I prefer an Altec 12, then if not that, an EV 10. Yes, they weighs a bit more!! Your ears will tell you, I'm sure.......

I noticed Jazzkat has stopped, far as I can tell, using 8 in. speakers. I will probably try a 10 in. or maybe even a 12 in. if i can find one that is light and will work in a small cabinet. maybe a small PA cabinet and an amp modeler?

Speaking of JazzKat, their web site is only listing three models now: 10", 12" and 2x10" combos.

For lightness - neo speaker and lopo / flite / tube town light cabs - with something like a Jensen Tornado would weight aournd 7 / 8 kgs.
