Amps Trade Princeton Chorus for Roland Cube40?

I've read a lot of good things about the Roland Cube 40XL amp. I'd like something more portable than my 40 lb circa 1988 Princeton Chorus amp. Would I lose much by getting rid of the Princeton? (other than 20 lbs).

Thats a solid state Princeton right. I would be sure to test out the roland first, the smaller versions are kinda not loved for their iffy clean tone and flubby bass response. The tone may be great on the 40xl, but I wouldn't risk any money til i tried it out.

I just got the Cube40 to carry around between practices and friends. I normally use a Fender Jazz King or the Ibanez Wholetone (which I love). Anyway, if you can, try to keep the Fender as well because I find the Cube don't always give me the tone I want (or know).

I've never played the Cube so I am hardly qualified to answer your question. But I do like the PC a lot, especially in combination with a Strat. My guess is that this would be a bad deal. Made in USA vs Made in China, 2x 10" vs 1x 10", genuine Fender sound vs, well, probably something very different. I store my PC in the closet because I don't have the heart to sell it for the little money I would get for it. The PC is a very underrated amp in my opinion.

^ Agree! I had a Princeton Chorus for a while, I really liked it for that pristine 80s solid-state clean thing.

Ok, I'll keep the Fender Princeton. Is there a better portable amp than the Roland 40xl?
