Guitar Telecaster input crackle

I've tried to solve the problem by tightening the nut on the input but that isn't really the problem. The actual support collar is not firmly fixed to the body. I've had the guitar for many years (Japanese '88 reissue) and it has a great sound -Tele lovers will know what I mean. I was thinking of getting a specialist to I dunno, update the input in some way. What does anyone else do? I've never understood why this guitar which has such a great sound, neck feel etc. has such a shoddy design for the input. Any useful suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hello Hello--

My "day gig" is restoring and fixing guitars and this is a REAL common problem with Teles. You can either have somebody who knows what they are doing remove the jack and cup and re-tension the little metal bar that holds them in place or just replace the whole input jack and cup with a modern "screw-in" version.

Hello Hello--

Funny... after I posted about the Tele jack I noticed that my '66 Esquire input jack was flopping around way too much and couldn't be fixed. Looks like I gotta get an electrosocket, too! I may try to re-install the little bracket that holds the cup in but so far it looks pretty far gone....
