Default case for hollow-body

I am looking at getting a gretsch hollow-body on line in the next six months, and it only comes in a gig bag. I cannot find any physical measurements on it. This might be a crazy thought but has anyone tried putting a hollow-body in the case of an acoustic 12 string? I am about to get rid of it and was wondering if I should keep the case or let it go with the 12 string.

Flattop acoustics are usually an inch or two deeper than most gretsches. It'll probably fit, but you'll need to fold up a sweatshirt or something under the body of the guitar so it doesn't swim around too much.

Should be easy to find a case, they're a pretty standard size and depth. You'll need something with a 16" lower bout and about 3 inches deep, I think.

I owned a Gretsch. If yours has a 16" lower bout, it will fit in an acoustic jumbo case. I bought this nice SKB case:

See my comments here:
Perfect fit SKB case for the G5125, G5126, G5127, G5128, G5129 Electromatics: Electromatics: The Gretsch Pages

So: probably.

I don't think "spiral" meant to say "jumbo". I think he meant to say that it will fit in a standard dreadnought case . My 16" jazz guitar easily fits in my dreadnought case. I didn't like the way it shifted around inside the case so I put a little bit of extra padding on the sides for a more snug fit.

Right now Musicians Friend has a used dreadnought case for $71.20 US.

I'm guessing he did mean jumbo...they're more like the shape of an archtop.

I had to settle on a jumbo case for my Kay until I bought a really nice gigbag for it...but my Kay is 17" across the lower bout...it was a tight fit...should be just right for a 16" gretsch.

The case i linked to is what i bought and it fit the Gretsch i owned. It is called the Jumbo Deluxe Universal case:

Be careful with normal dreadnought cases, they often aren't deep enough for a full-bodied guitar with floating bridge.
