Question about plywood and laminates being used on some gutiars I have been told many of the semi hollow body guitars out there like my old Guild Manhattan X170 have plywood and laminate tops. So with company's like PRS and Carvin having mahagony body's and maple tops, what type of difference is this making? What difference is there with using better quality woods? I know the newer semi hollow body's claim to have less feedback, but I am curious on why they even used plywood and laminated tops in the first place while still having a decent price tag. I am thinking back then everything was done by hand which is why costs were high, so they used cheap wood to help keep the price down. Today with CNC machines they get more accurate shapes and consistent made guitars with less labor so they can afford to put better wood on these newer guitars.
I could not find out what wood is used on a 335. I believe they use rosewood for the necks? |
