Do you want to consider a Line 6 Pod? It models a JC120 and any number of Fender tube amps, plus effects and can be used with head phones (quiet enough for you?) or into most any line level input.

I just sold my Blues JR and am thinking about replacing it with a Pod for home.

I use a Roland Cube 30X at home and I'm very pleased with it.

I'm there with benjazzman82, the new Roland cube 40XL does the deal.....right price, right weight, great tone that's big enough for practice and smaller venues.

A question about the 40XL - it has a built in phrase looper. How does that work without a foot pedal control? Or is a pedal included?
Thanks
Phil

A while ago in a music store I was putzing on an acoustic guitar through an UltraSound AG-30 amp. On a whim I plugged in an Eastman that was hanging on the wall. As the expression goes (I forget who said it), "I liked it so much I bought the company." Well, I didn't buy the company but I walked out with the Ultrasound. It's lightweight and to my ears sounds good at all volume levels. Granted, it doesn't have any effects. But that's easy enough to deal with. As such, this is my goto amp for small venues. It just works and at $200 - well, that worked, too, for my wallet.

I had an Ultrasound 30 when they first came out. It does what the company claims it does, "sounds just like your instrument, only louder".
A couple years later I blew the speaker out. I replaced the stock coaxial speaker with a full range Home Theater speaker and it sounded even better! But then the Larrivee 03 I had at the time was an extremely bright sounding guitar.
I sold the amp to my son's Mandolin player and decided if I were to ever buy another Ultrasound amp it would be the fifty watter. Not much bigger or heavier and a bit more robust. My two cents.....

Default Foot Switch for Looper...

I own a Roland 80XL which I really like. The Looper is not very usefull without
a Footswitch. Footswitches FS-6, FS-5L and FS-5U are "Options" to the Amps, so you have to buy them.

Philly112, I see moray beat me to the punch. The cubes I'm aware of don't come with a foot switch. I personally don't use that feature, ( yet ), I tend to purchase more whistles and bells than I really need.

I had the same problem some time ago - cheap practice amp.
Bought Cube 40XL.
More than satisfied - good clean sound, lots of options and one of the most important things for practice amp - linear input!
I can connect it to my pc or mp3 player and practice with backing tracks.

I have 3 of the ae-100 models. I changed the 8 inch speaker to an EV 200 watt speaker. People don't believe it is an 8 inch until they hear it. i would stand it up against any 10 and most 12's. The combination of the amp with that speaker gives plenty of low end. I have one of them listed on ebay at the moment (I just have too many amps....a couple RE 200's also. I prefer the tone of the 8 inch ev to the tone of the eminence 10 in the RE 200.)

The size / portability of the ae is awesome.

Gotta say "amen" to this. Best amp for the money I've ever seen. Very portable & you can have fun for days and at all volume levels with those built in effects.

Default Fender Jazz King

Let me just put in a huge plug for the Fender Jazz King. A solid state amp with great Fender clean & reverb. Diming it and my archtop still doesn't get any overdrive. And I also find feedback to be substantially less of a problem than with my tube amps. I finally had to buy mine online, as most stores just didn't carry them. Got it new in the $500 range; probably could save at least $100 by buying used. And because it is a Fender, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one used. It looks heavier than it is, but what a wonderful jazz amp for home or clubs.
