Default anyone see the D'Aquisto DVD

anyone seen the D'Aquisto NY special DVD that just came out ? is it any good ??

I 'd love to see it but $ 58 with the s&h (I am in Europe) seems a tad much for a DVD that runs just 30 minutes.

JAMES D'ACQUISTO New Yorker Special (DVD)

I've heard about this movie for years, but have only seen excerpts of it. (Some at the Met show this spring.) Just ordered it.

vey interested what you think of it; 30 minutes seems awfully short to show "him build a New Yorker Special from beginning to end"

I'm a big fan of D'Aquisto, so I'll like it just for the up close contact with Jimmy. However, I expect it's good. I've heard good things about it in Paul Schmid's book and elsewhere.

It's an incredible video, far too short of course but still worth it in my opinion.

I still wonder why it's so dang short. I've got the Benedetto vids and they're about 9 hours combined. That pretty much shows how it's done. Thirty minutes just seems wrong.

I don't think of the D'Aquisto video as being instructional. He talks about his craft, working for D'Angelico, you see some good shots of him at work and he does talk about carving, neck joints etc. but not in depth. It's very well shot and I believe was made as a short film entry in a film festival.

I agree entirely. It's a great, albeit short movie. Very inspiring.

O.K., I can deal with that with no problem. My only thing was I'd love to know what he and D'Angelico did that set them apart from the rest of the pack.

Just received it, and yes, it's inspiring. A very intimate view of Jimmy making guitars, great background music of Jim Hall and others. If you're interested in archtop guitars, this is worth watching.

Yes, I love the part where Jimmy is in a small club watching Jim Hall perform with one of his guitars.
Would love to get hold of the out-takes from this film. There must have been hours!

Glad you like it, Kamlapati. I'm grateful we have some footage of Jimmy at work. It really is inspiring.

Cool avatar. I always liked those inlays.

Looks like the reviews on the DVD are in. I'll be ordering mine.
