| | How to Get that "Jazz-Tele Sound" - Telecaster Jazz Tone Demo Since there have been several telecaster jazz threads, I thought some may enjoy seeing/hearing a great jazz tele informational video.
I was just surfing through YouTube and came across this fantastic video by Sound Pure Studios (BTW, all their videos are incredible... not affiliated, just a frequent viewer).
I recently sold off most of my archtops and new primarily play G&L ASAT Classic Thinline with a Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck, which sounds nice. My goal is to be able to get the tone in the below video... Wonderfully smooth and warm
Cheers,

| | These threads are great really show how Jazz can be played on anything. However I think someone should do a video on how to get a Jazz typical sound from an semi-hollow and archtop due to the many variants of "jazz" sounds there are. |

| | Good to see they showed how to get that tone with a single coil equipped tele as well as a humbucker-loaded tele.
Very well done video...maybe I should try my tele with my henriksen again...they didn't get along well the first few times I paired them up (my tele loves my polytone, however...go figure...) |

| | But not on a Les Paul!
I kid. It doesnt matter what the guitar is, the key thing here is the amp... a tele just makes it cool |

| | My 52 RI Tele has a Lollar CC on it, 13-53 roundwound (Thomastiks), and I prefer to use the Twin rather than the Henriksen. Maybe I'll give the Henriken a 2nd chance, after watching this video.
Like the video, I too roll off at least half the tone, BUT I get most of the volume from the amp, not the volume knob on the guitar (I set that to "just enough" to be discernible). The proper, sweet, clean tone is further achieved by playing fingerstyle, as any kind of pick-like "digging in" usually sounds too harsh, to me, anyway. |

| | Ok.. I think it sounded fine. When someone talks about THE jazz guitar tone I dont think of hardware, or sounding like someone. I think of what inspires ME play jazz.
That said, I have a Fender Lead I with a Lollar Special T in the neck. (see attached) When I put the pickup in I tried it out and found some great jazz tones from the neck pickup (ditto for the tele in the background). This wasnt supposed to be a jazz guitar.. it is my pop/rock/blues guitar (covers all the bases except blues.. but that is because I havent really tried it yet)
That said I have worked on quite a few strats in the past few months and I just cant get anything out of them. A skilled player CAN..(that I am not) but I think some guitars are easier to get in that sweet spot than others. Just my opinion.. worth what you paid for it.
A side note: Those humbuckers are wide range PUs. I have had a few of those (still have one in my parts box) and they are hot and bright. Not what you would expect a great jazz pickup to sound like. I will have to try it out again sometime.
