| | Right Strings for a Sparkle Hello!
I'm using a Sparkle electric guitar now. What gauge and brand of strings do you recommend for this guitar? I want to be sure that the strings give me the best jazz/blues tone and at the same time do not bend the neck. What do you recommend? Thanks.

Charles | - what is a Sparkle guitar?
- what kind of sound do you like? (jazz and blues can often sound very different tonally)
- unless the guitar is made out of plastic, you likely don't need to worry about too high tension that will bend the neck (that is the point of a truss rod)
- Amp, pickups, pick, and playing style may have a bigger impact on your overall tone than strings. but post back with what you are working with

| Thanks for your reply. Sparkle is a guitar maker (not pro). I'm using this brand while getting ready to buy a professional brand. This is why I'm asking whether it will be ok for the mean time. Long ago we used some strings on an acoustic guitar and the neck was bent. That brand of guitar was AJC. I was just afraid this one would be similar. This is why I asked about bending. But I actually remember now that this Sparkle has a truss rod.
Actually, I want a warm blues sound with quite some long release time on each note. I'm just wondering whether the strings will contribute to making the sound warm.
Thank you and good bye for now.

Anyway in answer to your question charlesamara I'd put some D'Addario 11's on there, I use those on my electric and they're great. If you don't have calloused fingers they'll feel a little heavy at first, maybe a bit difficult to bend, but you'll get used to them. 11's to me feel like 9's. Generally, the thicker the string gauge, the warmer and fatter the sound; think SRV, who used 13's or 14's I believe. Obviously pickups, action, wood type, etc. affect tone as well, but yeah I would go with some 11's. |
