Gabon Ebony has a "Janka" hardness rating of 3220. It aslo has very tight grain. Rosewood has long, open pores but it's still hard enough to do the job. There are other woods that are harder than Ebony. Lignum vitae is so dense it will sink in water. Some people say that Lignum vitae the hardest wood in the world, though I've never seen it used on a guitar. |
