Default For Those Who Like Half Wound Strings And The Like

I found these recently.

A lot of marketing speak here, but it gets the point across.

To make the Helix HD, the patent-pending, Hyper-Elliptical Winding process took over a year of many trials to find just the precise elliptical shape for the winding wire. This shape then had to be paired with the correct winding process that would produce these stupendous results—the maximum mass for the string’s diameter that still maintained the string’s vibrancy.

More mass makes a fuller tone; more windings give a smoother feel as well as
a brighter, more resonant tone. This provides a smoothness and performance unrivaled by any conventional string.

The Hyper-Elliptical Winding process results in an increased number of wraps along the length of the string. This increases the mass of your string, without changing its diameter or material.

They have a set with two G strings...one wound, one plain. The feel is definitely smoother than a roundwound and they have been lasting me a long time. I like em. Seem to be a nice middle ground between a flat and round.

My problem with half rounds and rollerwound has been that I find them to be sticky when I press and slide,making my fretting hand tired and they seem to have a drag to them.
Can you tell me if these have a drag when you press and silde how is the tone very brite?

I recently tried the Helix acoustic strings. I thought they were a little bit strident, or somewhat clang-y. I did like how they felt / played though. I want to try again soon. I think i still prefer Elixirs for "smooth roundwounds". They last forever, the coating makes them more slick, and they sound played in. For electric, the Helix are probably really good if you don't like half-rounds.

@Bluemood:
The Helix don't stick like half-rounds. That also annoys me about half-rounds.

I didn't like the acoustic Helix either, but the electrics are good. I find them a little mellower than a roundwound and that slanted elliptical winding leaves them pretty smooth. Not like a flatwound, of course, but about halfway between flat and round. They do have a slightly higher tension than a roundwound because of the higher mass.
Regular roundwounds get nasty for me in a few weeks. I can go 8 weeks with these no problem.

I think some will find them a tad light. The heaviest gauge they offer features a .011 1st followed a .013 2nd.

True enough. They don't offer real heavy ones.
