Default Flat Wound Strings and Kenny Burrell

Hey All
Silly question perhaps, but who does one tell when flat wounds have to be changed? Many of the rules for rounds don't apply. What do you guys think? Just began using this type.
Also, listening to Kenny's "God Bless the Child."
Can it get any better than this guy?
Thanks to all who respond.

When I used TIs I changed strings about every 2 to 3 months. I switched to Pyramid about 2 years ago and don't change nearly so often.

It's hard to explain when to change, but I think you will notice it.

I tell my wife because I'll need $20 for a new set of strings.

I hate changing strings, so I put it off as long as I can. (I'm not gigging now, just woodshedding, so I have to measure the gain in tone from a change against the aggravation of changing them. Not that it's THAT big a deal to change 'em, but I always wind up doing it a week later than I thought I would.)

I started getting my D'Addario Chromes through Amazon for 9 bucks a set, which is a lot less than the local shops want for them. There's a shipping charge, so I order several sets at a time.

They'll go flatter and flatter as you fret farther from the nut.

the TIs' on my 1977 2355 (es175) Ibanez are 8 years old ! ! !

Always wipe them when ending a session of any kind...and once a month run a polishing cloth around them from nut to bridge...

The Kenny Burrell sound is always there..he was the first I heard playing jazz guitar in 1966 and have been listening to him ever since that sunny day in sunny California...

time on the instrument...pierre

The TI Swings on my Epi Joe Pass have been on it about three years. Another Epi, a Dot, has a set of Chromes going on two years. These guitars sit on stands in my basement, get played almost every day, never get wiped down, and still sound and play well. In fact, I've swapped pickups out of both guitars and just loosen the stings and removed tailpieces to save the strings while I did the pickupdectomies. On the other hand, Fender and GHS flats I used in the past lasted two weeks, maybe a month before they self destructed. I sometimes hit them hard with a wide variety of picks and never play fingerstyle.

Are you guys changing the steel strings periodically while keeping the flats on the guitar for years on end?

I go through threads like this about as often as I change my strings. TIs sound GREAT for about 3 weeks.. after about 2 months the intonation is so wonky I wind up changing them. I have yet to find a set of strings that I am happy with for more than 3 months (and that is being very generous)
