sometimes I like to use the Seymour Duncan Twin Tube "pre amp" stomp box with the Henriksen and pedals.

I realize that this is mainly conceived as an overdrive/distortion pedal--qualities I have no use or sympathy for. But I set it such that the "bypass" sound is actually louder than the output through the Rhythm channel (volume low and gain lower, so there is no distortion).

I have found that it adds a bit of extra warmth and brightness.

My settings may generate a bit more hiss, as I set the main volume on the amp/preamp (higher here than on the volume knob on the guitar) and just "sufficiently enough" on the guitar volume knob (2-3) to get the ball rolling.

has anyone else used a preamp like the Twin Tone with this amp?

i haven't tried the twin tube but I do like the barber barb eq. I also have a pair of custom made fender showman preamps which make it sound like a twin.

hey all,
just borrowed a Peterson MK2 pg100. a 1x12 combo. wondered how these compare to the amps mentioned above. i like the peterson, just not a head. Anyone converted one of these to a head unit?

they have been out of production for many years. You're lucky to find one still working - the transistors will be long out of production I expect. Little chance of finding a head, I'd guess.
Interesting review of this amp ( and the evans AE100) at:

ok, so whats peoples take on this

SWR® - STEP UP!™

it's a power amp, that you could plug any pre amp (barber) etc into. flexible outs. plenty headroom, really small.

the headlite looks very cool but so did the GK MB200 but it was so boomy and bottom heavy that it was useless for guitar. It's also pretty expensive at $699. The GK is only $250.

At $699, it's more than the price of a used Clarus.

interesting stuff... i have just been offered a Peterson 100G (wood cabinet) what can you tell me about these amps?.. from what i have learned so far seems they command a lot of respect from jazz players. Also just found out that they use to be crafted using Mosfet amps and were based in Downham Market just up the road from where i live.

Try this:
Peterson-amps

A bit of history about them. I'd imagine it will be difficult to get parts now, though, so bear that in mind if buying.

Yes been to that site.. there is a guy who repairs them if needed and also has schematics on SSG forum but good news is they are Mosfet powered so most parts will still be available. now wonder if anyone on here has an idea of value on these Amps as i dont want to pay over the odds, although i realize quality comes at a price! lol What would you pay?

I just tried a Cannibus Rex in my Henriksen and so far I love it way better than the stock one. It feels much smoother, more full, and the 10k knob is actually useful now.

Yeah that amp deserves a better speaker than the Beta... aren't you worried about the 50w of the C Rex?

I was, but then I saw that it was a much more efficient speaker than the stock one, and I never needed to crank it all the way up with the Beta. Also, the one I have is 16 ohms, so shouldn't bring that bring the power down some?

Yeps, the henriksen pumps 100w at 16 ohms according to Peter. Probably just a matter of being careful with the volume as you say. I am curious to hear the amp with that speaker, I did like mine with an EV and a friend of mine loves his with a Tornado.

I'm sure the EV sounds great. I ran mine through my EVM 15B and it sounds incredible, but it's very heavy.

I understand, to me it was worth it when I had it... since I have an EV in a cab these days I would like to find a second hand Henriksen head in Europe.

Well i have agreed a price for the Peterson 100G (one arm and 3 legs) and will be picking it up on Tuesday.. I am going to be re-selling the Peterson as that is how i make my living. So look out for it on ebay although i would like to see it going to a new owner with a passion for these amps.. let me know if you are interested and you are more than welcome to PM me of course.
