Default How long is your neck?

How long is your neck?
Does anyone choose their guitar based on the scale length? Did you know there was any difference? Below are a few of the common scale lengths. The longer the scale length the greater distance between frets of course.

Common Scale Lengths
Fender Strat/Tele 25.5 "
Fender Jazzmaster 25.5"
Fender Jaguar 24"
Gibson Les Paul/SG 24.75"
Gretsch 24.6"
Guild 24.75"
PRS 25"
Ibanez 25.5"
Wafer 25.5"

Did you choose your guitar based on the weight around your neck? Below are a few examples to compare.

Guitar Weights
Fender Stratocaster 4.0 kgs
Gibson Les Paul 4.1 kgs
Gibson SG 3.6 kgs
Epiphone Les Paul 6.6 kgs
Ibanez 4.0 kgs
Rickenbacker 330 3.6 kgs
Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet 4.3 kgs
Wafer 2.2 kgs

Can you add some others to these lists?

Wow. The Wafer sure looks like the wonder-axe of the century to me. How can I buy one?

Wait,... there is a link - yippeeeeeee!

I wonder if it is a Nitro finish?

What finish is BEST for hep-cat groove players?

Do you KNOW what is best?

Can you HAVE the best of both worlds?

What do YOU thnk?

PRS - Incapacitative po-nitric gloss
Fender - Polymorphisificicik Stuff
Gibson - Nitantric Titanic
Gretsch - Uranus Puckercoat
Wafer - Wondercoat Catalytic Conversion Breathe/No-Breathe Flex-Stiff-Stuff

I loves me some Wafer.

Please discuss.

Please tell me more. Is this a guitar revolution? A guitarvolution perhaps? Will there be a guitarvolutionary war, where the victor shall be a hollowed out plywood single cutaway strat copy that has a spambot for a marketing team?

i prefer 25.5 as i grew up playing them and the shorter gibson scale doesn't work too well for me for some reason

I learned to play on the 24 3/4 scale and today I have 6 of them (Gibsons). The 25 1/2 scale guitars don't work at all for me. I guess it is what you get used to. 3/4 of an inch doesn't seem like much but it is enough.

I learned to play on 25 1/2 but I converted to 24 3/4.
On my tele I don't mind the scale length, because it gets this piano like tone and harmonics with 12s. Think Ted Greene. But I love the playability on my 24 3/4 guitars, and the dark tone they get with fat strings.

I guess you mean my Hummingbird? I have owned it for 36 years and will only part with it when I pass and give it to my son. Oh yes it is nice. At least I think so

My Collings is 24 7/8" and my Santa Cruz is 24.9". Those lengths are my favorite.

Wow, everyone got serious all of a sudden. I was going to say my neck was about 5 inches long and my shirt collar was a 15 1/2 inches long. Well, in all seriousness, I've seemed to have settled on the 24.75 inch scale but a tiny bit narrower than a 175 neck. I played a Byrdland for a while but I didn't like it after a while. The 23.5 in scale was nice but the neck was way too narrow. Same thing with the Rickenbackers. The Gibson 355 has a really comfortable neck and you can get way up on the neck as well. I still prefer the full bodied archtops.

Longer scale length = more tension, which means that there’s more downward pressure on the top of a jazz guitar but you have to press down a little harder with your fingers onto the fretboard.

The necks on my guitars are 24.75” except for a Gretsch that I own.

All of my guitars right now are 25 1/2" scale Fender Tele ,Strat,Parker.
My next guitar might be a 24 3/4 " scale semi hollow body ,I'm on the lookout.

i don't have a preference. I have 3 hollowbodies with 25.5", 2 with 25, and 2 with 24.75". They all sound great.

I don't have any trouble switching between 25.5 and 24.75 inch scales, but I do prefer a 1 11/16 nut width. (However, 1 3/4 is OK, but 1 5/8 is not.) I think, "Thin & Trim," would be a beter name ...
