Default Parallel & Series wiring mod for 3 Pick-up guitars

I attach the wiring drawing I use for guitars with 3 single coil pick-ups, and is a simple modification to ‘Stratocaster’ style guitars to increase the range of tones from the guitar. In addition to selecting each individual single coil with the five position switch, humbucking can be selected in both series and parallel for neck/middle or middle/bridge, using a three positon selector switch. You very probably know that traditional ‘Strat’ set ups achieve humbucking by pairing pick-ups in parallel, whilst traditional 2 humbucker guitars, fitted with 2 twin coil units have humbucking with the coils in series.

The drawing doesn’t show the two tone controls which operate from the neck and middle pick-ups in the normal ‘Strat’ style.
The ‘5 position slider switch’ is also of the ‘Strat’ type.
1.) Parallel. The new element is the 3 position rotary switch, which when selected to position‘1’ allows the 5 position switch to operate single coils in positions 1,3 and 5, and humbucking parallel in positions 2 & 4, for neck/middle and middle/bridge.
2.) Series. When the 3 position selector is in position ‘2’, and the 5 position switch is in the middle position ‘3’ the middle/bridge pick-ups are humbucking in series. When the 3 position selector is put into position ‘3’ the neck/bridge pick-ups are humbucking in series.
The differences between series and parallel are audibly clear, series produces a fuller mellow tone while parallel gives tones that are brighter and sharper.
