Amps Fender Supersonic for Jazz

I have a Fender Supersonic that is clearly not meant for Jazz. I have been using it on R&B and Gospel gigs for the last 3 years. The problem is that I want to use it for jazz gigs but it wounds awful. It breaks up and starts distorting with my 175 and doesn't offer a full sound in any way. It has a Celestion in there now and Sovtek tubes. Any ideas on how to make this beast sound great with my 175? I also have an old Twin reverb that weighs about 1000 lbs. and a sound I love. Thanks

Here's a link to the amp I am referring to, mine was purchased in 2007

JJ tubes from Eurotubes (gold pin option):

A speaker from Weber. I would suggest the California 12 (ceramic)

You could also try swapping out the 12AX7s for something with less gain, like 5751s or 12AT7s.

That looks like a sweet amp. Have you tried the Magic Six settings? Worked for me and others. Start with it and tweak.

That's a very powerful amp--there's absolutely no reason it should start breaking up. Doesn't it have "voices," like "classic" and "modern" or something too?

Either the gain is set too high or you're playing jazz too loud.

Ok, breaking up is the wrong word then. It does not distort as I use the bassman channel for clean playing. The reason the amp was purchased was because it sounded great with a stratocaster and some pedals, and it is quite loud. However, on all settings, it does not sound good with the 175. A friend of mine had the same problem with the celestion speaker inside a Peavey Amp. I will definitely look into the tubes and speaker switch. Thanks for all of your help.
