Sweet You Guys Think This Can Work?

I'm a hopeless tinkerer. It's a disease, I tell ya!
Anyway, my 5th Avenue is my most played guitar.

Sounds great unplugged but I'm not happy with the import mini at all. Compared to the Duncan mini in my other guitar, it's got the "wet blanket" syndrome. So, I've been considering options and have a plan.
Got my hands on a decent P90 I want to try. I do not want to attach it to the top of the guitar. Is there any reason I can't fabricate a wood cover/bracket that I can attach to the pickguard. I've been looking for floating P90s and the closest I've found is the $200 Armstrong floating single. Hate to drop that much on a pickup I've never heard. Heck, I hate to spend that much on one I HAVE heard!
What do you think? Any reason I'm overlooking that kills the idea?

Nice guitar! No reason the P90 shouldn't work, assuming it fits under the strings. How about temporarily attaching a cable to the pickup, and getting someone to hold it in place under the strings (wives are good for that) so you can see how it sounds. If it seems to have potential, then you could work out a way to mount it to the guitar.

You could also use a bit of "blu-tack" useful for that, too. Unlike a wife it won't have an affair with a coworker and empty out your savings account.

Excellent point. I just wish you had mentioned it sooner!

I have some double sided tape for the pickup placement experiment.
The tape can't cook, though, so....
