Default Very suspect gibson jazz guitar?

Hi guys!

Im looking for another jazz guitar, also made a thread about Hagstrom HJ 800. But yesterday a guy mailed me and offered a Gibson-looking jazz guitar for my Epi Joe PAss, if i pay more 650 usd on it. The problem is that he doesnt know anything about the guitar (i asked him in mail), he said he just got it as a gift. Heres a link about the 4 pics, which are on an ebay-like hungarian website, where the guy advertises the instrument, and I tell u what is strange for me, but please tell me your opinions.

gibson, használt eladó - eladó - Elektromos gitár | Expressz.hu

So as I saw the neck i saw on it: "Gibson Les Paul Custom". As far as i know jazz guitars are not Les Paul Customs, so maybe he changed neck on a cheap jazz guitar? On another pic the Tailpiece is strange, never so such a tailpiece on a gibson jazz guitar. I checked the serial, which is on another pic, it said this guitar was built in 2000 on summer, but if the neck was chagned, it doesnt matter a lot.

Tell me your opinions please before I go to the other corner of my country and trade my guitar for that.

Thanks a lot in advance,

laci

That is probably a 'Chibson'. Made in China, Gibson 'knockoff'. But this one isn't even a good copy. Stay away from this guitar

Just to emphasize, Gibson has never made an archtop with a Les Paul neck. Also, the sunburst color is totally wrong. I've been looking at, and playing, and reading about Gibsons for nigh on 50 years, and that is definitely a fake.

It's really a bit scary, 'cause with just a bit more knowledge whoever made that fake could've made one much better!

You can go on some of the Chinese wholesale websites and find "Gibson" guitars for sale; the best of these counterfeits look pretty convincing (at least in the photos).

I have heard that what you see on some sites is NOT what you get.
I have seen Chinese knock offs up close and you can tell from 10 feet that they are copies. Little things like the colour of the binding or of the nut give it away.

They ARE getting better in their copies (not using 3 screw trussrod covers for example) and their fit and finish is closer to Gibson (and that isnt saying much for Gibson). This isnt a problem that is going away soon IMHO.

Especially when you have things like this:
International Trademark Nightmare
In short, seems that some company other than Martin has legally registered as C. F. Martin in China and is selling Martin guitars that can legally carry the C.F. Martin name, and apparently their logo, in China. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they start showing up for sale on the 'net and in countries where it would be a trademark violation.

The peghead shape, the "Gibson" logo, the peghead inlays, the sunburst color and pattern, the tailpiece, the lack of a pickguard, the black tip on the toogle switch - all this is definitely non-Gibson. This is NOT a Gibson guitar.

Now thats fun!

In my first mail, i told the guy that I have an Epi Joe Pass, or a Sheraton II or a Roland Jazz Chorus 80 +money what i can offer. I asked him why he wanna sell, he told me he needs money urgently. After re-watching the pics and your comments, I mailed him that "sorry, dont have enough money to buy that", and got a mail: "give the Joe PAss+Roland and its a deal". I didnt want to hurt him with "wazup u won on the lottery? By the way buzz off with your fake chibson,", but I decided not to answer for this mail.

ty all
