This is it. Now before you think I have that much money, I need to tell you that I sold 6 guitars to get this one. I used to live in Northwest Fla. where they had too many hurricanes for my taste. My wife and I had to evacuate several times which meant that I had to leave the largest protion of the small collection home. All I could take was 2 or 3 because of all the other stuff I needed to take with us. I got tired of thinking I was coming back home to kindling so I liquidated most of my collection and bought this one and consolidated.

Same here! I own 18 guitars, most of them very cheap though, because I liked to restore old neglected guitars. But since the acquisition of my Gibson ES-333 I hardly touch any other so I am seriously thinking of cutting back, but it's hard to part from them....

Now that's a beautiful guitar! I understand how you feel about the hurricane thing. I feel the same way about earthquakes here in Tokyo. I told my wife that if it comes down to it, to grab the '50 ES-175 and leave the others behind. But for some reason, when it comes time to think about thinning out the herd, I have a hard time letting go of things. I guess I need to work on that.

By the way, as I was lining up the guitars for the picture, my wife added up how much I have spent for the guitars I have now (just the ones in the picture), and pointed out that if I had saved that money, I could buy pretty much any guitar I want. Good point.

I understand that completely. I have guitars that I forgot I have, but when it comes time to let go of some of them, it's hard to do.

I'm glad you said "at least." That leaves the door open for actually buying one!

I've been watching some of the better dealers for the past 6-8 months and the chance of finding a good D'Angelico has been getting slimmer and slimmer. About a year ago, I went to Gruhn Guitars in Nashville ( I live about 3 hours away) and they had a total of 4 D'A's. There were two high quality 50's Excel cutaways, a 38 New Yorker, a mandolin and even 2 D'Aquistos. Now, they have only an old A1 (which I used to own, was sold and now back again) and one weirdly refinned Excel. Other places that had as many now have none. I guess people are holding on to them a lot more with the economy the way it is. Frank, if you have a well made Epi Deluxe, the sound of a D'A is not that different. If I couldn't have a D'A, that would be the guitar of my first choice.

Trying, buying, one inevitably leads to the other. I know how you feel though. I have a bad case of GAS for an ES-125 right now, but no money to play with. I need to sell something quick!
