Default A "What if" kind of question

Would I be wasting time trying to trade a mint MIM Fat strat and a likewise mint Guild CV-C1 both w' OHSC for a used Kingpin II CW? I can't spend right now, but would that be in the ballpark and fair both ways? Opinions, please.

Both of those total only $1000 in trade? What guitars would you have left on hand beside the Godin? I think if you traded both, you would probably find yourself hankering for one of them back. I don't know about the Guild, but the neck configurations between the Strat and the Godin are very different. You may find that you would like to swap playing them back and forth. I love the sound from my 5th Ave. Kingpin, and could not put it down for 2 months, but I do love playing my Yamaha Pacifica [strat type] as well.
I know you said you couldn't spend anything right now, but you may want to try and build up some cash so you can get away with trading one or the other for the Godin.

EDIT: ....Oh, the Godin is USED? The Kingpin II CW in the US goes for $995 at MF, shipped! If you make that trade, the other guy will be getting the far better end of that deal. PLUS, later on, you will probably spend money to get back one of the old ones or a facsimile back, and they just won't be the same.....Find out the book value on the Guild. In that condition, it should approach actual resale use value of the Godin.

There are 2 Guilds similar to yours, asking $899 and $1295 on _-Bay. Don't trade both for the Godin.

Guild CV-1C items - Get great deals on Musical Instruments items on eBay.com!

Of course this is all my own opinion, somewhat based on experience. But that is what you asked for.

There is no pending deal, just looking to get something I would play more often. I have an Aria FA71, Completely upgraded Epi DOt, and a '82 DY74c Yairi acoustic, none of which will leave me! I figured in this market the Fender Mex is only worth $400 at best, new ones are $500. The price on the Guild fluctuates a lot from what I've see, and I only paid less than $800 for it (NOS). But I lust for a Godin right now. Thanks for the input, are either of you owners of a Kingpin?

Another idea--look for a used 1 pickup Kingpin, and just trade the strat straight up.

Both those reply posts were from me.....Based on what you last posted, the MIM Strat and Guild are indeed extras.....I was simply did not want to see you left with only the Godin,....which would obviously not be the case.

I have the Godin 5th Ave Kingpin, single P90 pickup, no cutaway. I play right handed stringing in a left handed manner [upside down], and my playing level did not justify buying a left hand single cutaway hollow body like an Eastman 805CE or better and have it restrung right handed with a new nut, a $100-150 luthier charge in a addition to the purchase.

I had been looking for the Godin to show up in one of the local stores to try, and one finally showed up last May. It came home with me. I was and AM very pleased the Godin. This model was $699 at the time, and my hesitation caused the store to throw in the case....all much more affordable than the used non cutaway Eastman 805 I had drooled on several months before. All I had to do was flip over the pickguard, and install flatwound electric strings instead of the acoustic round wounds it came with....
I am very pleased with the tone, it is the mellowest sounding of the small herd that I am also considering thinning out.

The action is very playable for me with a little adjustment to the bridge for the new 0.10-0.46 flatwounds, I may try 0.12"s in response to my reading here on this forum.
I have no complaints regarding the workmanhsip of the 5th Ave. Kingpin.
I have had it 6 months. I have no need to trade up from it. It provides the sound and the image I want in the small church orchestra that I play in.

I tried several original Kingpins in stores and didn't like them at all. However, the II cutaway I would take without even playing one. I'd do the deal in a heartbeat. You can always find another Strat or build one from parts--a body here, a neck there, etc. Don't know about the acoustic Guild but the last acoustic I had- a mint 1963 Epiphone an uncle bought new- I traded for a Tele clone I still have. Go for it.
