| | Looking for a "different" style archtop Hey all, I am going to build an archtop this winter. I am looking for something a little bit different from the typical L4 L5 ES175, etc. I noticed Eastman has a Pagelli model which is quite different. Any other "different" stylings in an archtop? thanks.

| | Something like the old Guild Bluesbird. Which was like a hollow Les Paul, but maybe make is a bit bigger. So small enough to be comfortable and transportable, but hollow for jazz sound. |

| | Docbop has a good idea. Benedetto and Eastman (among others, I'm sure) offer models along the lines of the Bluesbird: smaller and thinner than a traditional archtop, no f-holes, but a real jazz sound. |

| | Hey guys, thanks for the suggestion. Hmm, what I am looking for is "different". Unlike the regular guitars. The Bluesbird looks nice, but it looks like an LP - I already got one of those.
Here is an example of "different" |

| | Check out this guys design. He's been building these for YEARS. Looking at some of the newer designs like that Paglia whatever, Rob looks like he's been ahead of his time. Bob De Vos plays an Engel guitar... http://www.engelguitars.com/

| | I found this image on the telecaster forum, but I cannot find any info about who the maker is etc. Pertty cool idea since I am playing Telecasters more and more. This guitar looks like cross between a Fender Tele and a Benedetto archtop... |

| | The Halfling guitars are pretty different, and fun to play with the soundhole so close. Notice the arch under the higher pitched strings... Halfling Jazz Guitar - Ribbecke Guitar Co

I'd love a guitar like that, but I can't even afford to have an opinion these days. |

| | There's the Ken Parker archtops made by Ken himself, or the Parker jazz boxes made after Ken sold the company. They have a bit of a different look. Check Google images, but keep a chum bucket close by. |

| | I love my Ibanez Talman. I can dial in everything from acoustic to old gritty hollowbody sounds. I call it my Choc-Talman. Running it directly through the Roland Cube JC-120 amp module, really makes it shine. My avatar has an image of my playing it.

| | Here's one you might like: the Veillette Jazz Archtop: Veillette Guitars
(sorry, thought that link took you directly to the page for that guitar. You'll need to click through the electric guitar menu).
I also think Jim Soloway's latest design is nice: Soloway Guitars - The Single 15 |

| | If you want something really original...start sketching. Looking at other designs is fun, but I'm not sure that will yield something original. That's just how I would go about it; that doesn't mean your way is "wrong." From my purely subjective viewpoint, "innovative" designs are usually unattractive to me. I go for the classic stuff, and it's tough to be original and classic. I guess that's what makes them special. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
