Amps Need amp advice.

So I got the Gretsch 6120.....had it for a few years and love it. I canīt afford the amp I want, fender deluxe reverb.

So I need a practice amp at home/something that can work with a band if that happends. How are the digital modeling amp these days, and should I buy a used one ?

I play like jazz, blues, rockabilly..... What options are there, Vox valvetronix, Roland cube ?

How big difference is there between tube amps and modeling amps ?

On a low budget, most solid state amps with 50 watts or more and a 12" speaker will get the job done. The used market is full of them cheap. Always play a used amp before you buy. Get yer twang on.

Sometimes it's a false economy to buy the thing you don't want. It won't scratch the itch and you will end up selling it again and buying something else and so on. Perhaps you would be better saving and waiting for the amp you really want.

I would have to agree with FWBO. If you're not in a desperate hurry just hang on and save up, get the amp you want.

I hope that helps!

Then please tell us a price that is affordable.

I own a 72 Deluxe Reverb. It was the only amp i owned for 20 years. I recently got a B Stock Princeton Reverb Reissue ($560) from an online retailer and am very pleased with it. It is perfect for playing at home and recording, and gives me a DR sound without ripping my face off.

BTW Gretsch hollowbodies w/ a nice clean Fender reverb amp is the most beautiful sound in the world.

Hey guys !

Rigth now affordable is about 512.ish dollars.( I used a money converter on the net...) Her in Norway amps are expensive because of the tax. So for a fender deluxe reverb reissue, brand new, you pay about 1,965.30....- the cheapest. A used one is hard to find....but for 2/3 of the price I would love to by one.... I guess everything is cheaper outside Norway !

Deluxe reverb has just sold in the UK for Ģ420 on Ebay. I don't know what tax you would have to pay but at that price I would say you can have the amp you REALLY want if you save a little more

Did anyone know there are lots of touring guitar players that get their sound every night from the "house" guitar amp?

I watch the live stream at Small Jazz Club and a lot of great jazz guitarists play there sometimes the same night. They all seem to use Small's Deluxe Reverb and get their sound. Some nights you'll hear someone open the night with solo guitar set getting a traditional sound, then the next set a group with a modern Jazz sound play and guitarist use same amp getting their sound. Part of learning to playing guitar is learning to dial in amp you don't alway have your gear, or you're in a room that your own amp and setting aren't working.
