| | Eastman 904 CE ("oval" holed archtops) Anybody play one of these? They look and sound wonderful. YouTube - Archtops: Eastman vs. Gibson |

| | Yes, I have played a noncut version. Very acousticy sounding. Not enough bottom end for me though. Like all Eastman's I have played, impressive quality for the $. |

| | I'm not a fan of the way they mount the pup. Also, and suprisingly so , not enough bottom. |

| | The bottom end critique makes sense--same issue with my Gibby oval HR--of course, it's a matter of preference. I love the fact that these sort of oval archtops are a tad more "bright" than non oval F holed ones. Thus, What others may see as "bottom", my initial inclination is "ahhh, muddiness". So, I always roll off the bass on the amp. different strokes, different folks.
I was impressed with the acoustic clarity of this. I wonder if all oval holed archtops tend to be brighter sounding ?
The pickup is positioned the same way as my Howard Roberts, so it must be standard for these type of axes. |

| | Doesn't the pup on the HR sit above the hole? I'm not liking the pup in the hole. The Hagstrom Jimmy Oval hole has it the same way.
@NSJ, I know your an oval hole guy like me. Have you looked at the Koontz oval hole at the Guitars n Jazz site? He also had an oval hole Heratige. Nice eye candy |

Nice eye candy | Sam Koontz was a good friend of my guitar teacher. In fact, his favorite axe of all time is a Koontz oval hole (floating pickups), that took him a while to get Sam to sell it to him, so good of a guitar Sam knew he had made. (strangely enough, apparently Koontz started out as a shoe maker before he was a luthier). I've played that guitar very briefly, and it's incredible.
I don't know about that site, will check it out. Eye candy is always nice! |

Makes sense, putting 'sole' into a guitar. No trouble with heel joints, either...
