I know norman likes his, but if you can save up a little extra dough, the ciganos by gitane are a lot more "authentic" sounding. You really notice the shortcomings of a cheap gypsy style guitar when you play with someone who has one that's a little better, and you usually notice it because you can't be heard.
I've owned a cordoba, which was fine to get started--but now that I'm playing this music in front of people, my gitane john jorgenson model was a very wise investment. When I bought the JJ, I also played the Ciganos, which were great--but since I had the money and really wanted the long scale D hole, I went with the gitane--but make no mistake--the cigano D hole I played sounded about 95% as good as the more expensive gitane. |
