solid body with p90s

im looking at picking up a solid body with p90's or p90 like pickups. my budget is around 1000 out the door. what do you guys suggest? I play jazz n blues, and i listen to a lot of grant green

Telecaster JA-90:

$1,000 MSRP, $750 street. It's a thinline, but that just means it is lighter than a solid body. WIth a mahogany/rosewood set neck and t-o-m bridge, and of course the two P-90s, it is a Tele in name only. A forum member has this guitar -- maybe he can chime in.

might be pushing your limit, but i love my les paul 1954 reissue. the stoptail is a big part of the mojo.

Try out the Gibson SG Classic, 2 P90's on it. Great guitar. Guitar centers usually have one hanging on their wall. I think they are $999 new. You can find them on ebay for cheaper.

You might consider some of these models...

Xaviere XV600

...there are several body and pup variants, including P90s.

I have an XV600, Monaco yellow, Dream 180 HB pups (more 'gretchy' or 'ricky' than 'gibo'...), splitable. I find it marvellous, and a great variety of sounds, including a nice 'jazz' tone. I haven't split yet; they can be quite 'sharp' enough as it is. Don't be put off by the low price; mine has an excellent finish and 'feel'.

2nd hand Heritage "P90" 150 or 137 ?

While not a solid body (sort of a thin ES-5) I'd like to get my mits on a Peerless Wizard: 3 "P90s", 25.5" scale, inexpensive.....

Godin has one, forget the model name, with two Duncan Vintage P-90's. I think they were discontinued a couple of years ago but they are nice guitars and you should be able to find one for $400 US or less. The Epiphone Les Paul Goldtops that I have played in stores had the best factory Epi pickups I've found. Nice Korean made guitars that you should be able to find used in the $375-$500 range. PRS has a Korean made model, forget its name, that I liked OK and those are cheap used. The Peavey Firenza is another that could be a real cheap sleeper buy. The P-90's are Peaveys and sound OK. If you can find one, it will probably be under $300. I kick myself for not walking out of my favourite pawnshop a couple of years ago with the all black Ibanez Ghostrider. Really comfortable small body, real fast slim neck with good rosewood board. These are pretty rare and if you find one it should be in the mid $200 range. You could buy any one of the above and still have hundreds of dollars to put good pickups, pots and switches in it. Good luck.

PRS SE Soapbars are around $500. Godin may have had one under $1000 that isn't currently in production, and Reverend (direct seller) has a lot of P90 equipped guitars with some retro vibe. Eastwood (out of Canada) sells direct and has an LP Special and a Firebird-type model with P90's.

You could also get a solid and have P90's put in it, or the new Duncan that do P90/single/hum all in one pickup.

I just bought a Squier Tele Custom II:

I'm collecting mine today, I tried one at a shop and I could get a very beautiful tone for jazz, thick and darkish with good clarity and definition - much preferable to the Custom with humbuckers. It has a reasonably thick neck for a Squier, and a 7.25" radius on the fretboard, which might not be great for everyone, but works well for me. Nicely made too, it seems that the better Squiers are decent quality.

May be I will BDLH, the ja90 is only a tele in name nice jazz tones from the neck pup and cool blues tones from the bridge,slim neck,lighter than a standard tele,and you could get a black one,a well finished guitar no marks, rough frets, rough edges, all in all a good guitar.

This Gibson Les Paul Special (2xP90) really is special for its ebony fretboard.

At 777,- EUR it's a steal. I've bought the same guitar from this dealer, it had a minor QC issue - one wire was just clamped not soldered to the pot contact. The switch doesn't seem to be high quality either but for the rest this guitar is gorgeous. The fretboard is a delight. The neck pup sings like an angel or, if slightly distorted, grumbles like a hellhound. The bridge pup or both together are nice Vintage sounding. It's an outstanding Blues & Rock axe but offers some nice jazzy tones, too.

I'm not related to the vendor, I just think that this is a very special offer and that some of you might be interested.

I play a Godin LG all mahogany,that had Seymour Duncan P-90s, but I replace them with some P-90s out of a early 60s Gibson Goldtop,and I use it for everything. I love the sound I get from that guitar. I play Jazz and Blues with it, I hardly play any of my other guitars.

I saw a review for the Godin Icon 3 that was very good. Rather new and a street price a bit about the $1000 mark.

I don't know what happen really to that Gold Top, I got those pickups out of. I bought them off ebay I think. I know I check them out and they where original according to the parts guy at Gibson.

I bought my Godin LG for $475.00 a store demo, mint condition. Mahogany neck and body nice natural dark stain. Zoom in on the picture by my name. Sold the real hot seymour Duncan SP3 P90s on ebay no problem, for enough money to by the Gibson P90s. The only thing the guitar has all black hardware the P90s since they came out of a Gold Top are cream color. But that don't bother me it sounds great. I have less then $600.00 in it. Made in Canada better then and Epiphone to me, Les Paul type neck.

I can't believe you would tear apart a Gibson Goldtop to just use the P90's to put in a Godin guitar. No disrespect to Godin, but I would love to have had that Goldtop. Still would if you find it.

The Godin Icon, as mentioned, looks nice, though I haven't seen one yet. The Gibson LP Special doublecut faded model goes regularly for $600 or so used. Very nice guitars.
The Gibson SG Special is tough to beat though. Gloss lacquer, two P90s and for less than $1k.
I'm doing a refinish on a buddy's PRS SE soapbar. The soapbar model is dicontinued, I believe, but it's a nice hunk of wood and a great player for $500 or so used. The poly finish turns me off, but what you gonna do? (Except strip it and turn it into a goldtop?

I did not tear a Goldtop apart, I would have a Gibson Goldtop over a Godin anytime. What I said was I bought the pickups from somebody who took them out of a Goldtop, why I don't know I just got a deal on the pickups. You know I heard the new Parson street P90s from Steward MacDonalds and they sound pretty darn good. A guy I heard in Austin put them in the new Godin Kingpin the one with two P90s.
