Help what pickup is this ???

My 1951 Epiphone Broadway has a floating humckucker pickup, looks really old/ worn. Does anyone know the brand and model of this pickup ?

It has braided metal wire like Gibson would have, but no polepieces so it is not a Johnny Smith. It measures 14,7 kOhms output and sounds great.

The tone pot has 1972 on it, so I guess the pickup is from around that time. It is definately not a newer item. The volume pot sais Dimarzio and has a 1980 code. I emailed Dimarzio but they say they never made anything like it.

Check the original and modern american pickups on this link. They all have polepieces but yours does not. Going by the age of the pots your P/U could be generic japanese of the 80's or 90's.

I already found it; it is a very 1st issue Gibson BJB. After Johnny Smith left they recreated his pickup but without the polepieces.

same thing they used late 60s/early 70s on the Super V, LeGrande, Citation, Kalamazoo award etc.

the guitar is being refretted, that's why I disassembled. After that I'll clean it and put back on. It sounds great so no reason to let go ! ;-)
