I have a Fender Hot rod deluxe almost the same thing, I put a Weber 12A150 Alinco with no dope and I just love that speaker in that amp my # 1 amp...I like warm brite ...I tried Celestion Vintage 30 but it went out almost as fast as it went in to hard and loud sounding for me with a mid spike...Also you might try some tong sol preamp tube in V1 may warm it up a bit...You might want to bias it a little hotter also will warm it up.

I have a Hot Rod Deluxe also. Haven't done this yet myself, but lots of folks on the Fender board recommend JJ's for taking the high end "ice pickiness" out of that amp. Check out https://ssl.eurotubes.com/cart/index...t egory_id=32

Also, I have a Celestion G12-65 that I plan putting in. I'm thinking it'll be warmer than the stock Fender Eminence speaker.

I do have JJ6l6GC (Bob at Eurotubes) and they seem to sound great...I think my bias is at 66MV I didn't want to go to over board and it sounds real good to me...Also did a reverb mod to warm it up and get rid of the overtones that I sometimes use to hear.

The reverb mod... There's a Justin Holten/Steve Dallman mod that basically consists of clipping a wire. Is that the one you're talking about?

I installed a blues set of JJ's in my friend Deville...It had less gain in the drive channel and less volume in the clean channel than evan my Deluxe but than again it's hsa 4-10's...My friend like it due to he is a jazzbox lover...Me I use semi hollow body and solid body...Yes on the reverb mod very simple to do now the reverb is not brite at low volume, which is how these amp are how run most of the time.

The Hot rod amps are very bass heavy the controls start at zero opposed 12 o'clock and than cut back...That's why the volume is so touchy at 3 it's loud...Even with a solidbody guitar I sometimes get loud bass notes booming...My setting right now is Treble on 6 mids on 5 bass on 4 reverb 2 presence 5 solidbody guitar Tele ,strat...Hofner very thin classic mini humbuckers (germany) Parker ,PM20PRO humbuckers I roll the bass down sometimes to #2 or 3.When I had a full size hollowbody jazzbox the feedback was so bad that I could not play it.

One thing that I'm noticing is that my HRD seems to eat thourgh phase inverter tube.. Not sure why might be due to how close the speaker is to the tubes...A good idea to have spare tubes.
