Guitar Need to read music

I have been playing for about four years and i would consider myself almost advanced, not trying to sound pretentious. i know how to play breezin and take five by george benson, and am great with rock and blues improve, but not so good with jazz solos. i know lots of music theory, i just dont know the names for anything and can't read music. i can't get lessons. is it possible and what is the best way to learn more jazz theory and such without lessons. should i learn how to read music? thanks for replying

Whether to read music and study theory, or not, is a hot topic on this forum I've noticed. It's all a matter of where you want to go with your music. Personally, I think you shouldn't limit yourself by not learning to read music. There are several books that teach basics of music reading. I currently am working through 'The Complete Jazz Method' by Jody Fisher. Also this website gives lessons on how to read music. Good luck.

Ben
