Default Sailors new teacher

I'm glad I took all the advice on this forum. Yeah...I'm classically trained, and yeah...I've been playing CM's and stuff from this site for almost two years.

My new teacher, (2nd lesson), handed my ass to me today while playing TWELVE BAR BLUES!! Incorrect fingering of chords, poor rhythm, bad thumb placement, poor use of approach chords, almost no tri-tone subs....

Make a long story short...GET A TEACHER!! I don't care how good you are. It's nice to be brought back to the basics and master each step along the way....something that most of us don't do on our own. I thought I was playing the HELL out of 12 bar blues...now I'm off to begin again.

Thanks, Sailor

It's like your walking a bassline with 7th chords. All the halfstep approaches, sweet. dig it.

Hi Sailor, thanks for posting this. I'd like to practice this too but I can't "read" this kind of notation : I don't find where each bar starts or end ! Could you explain how this works or could you write it another way ?

Sorry about the notation confusion!! Pretty typical but I'll explain:

Instead of making four beats per measure with slashes...////, I assumed each chord would represent a beat and each additional slash would include an additional beat of that chord unless there was a change. Measures ARE spaced a little more.

First two measures look like this:

Bb7 Bb7 Bb7 E7 / Eb7 Eb7 Eb7 A7 / etc..... hope this helps....great blues jam!!

My new lessons: !2 Bar Jazz/blues...all 12 keys. Excellent...wouldn't do it without being forced.

Now...Blue Bossa...chords w/extensions, correct fingerings, melody, Arps, all in one position to start. Played crappy in front of teacher!!

Next week he wants me to be able to play all the corresponding modes over each chord change to Blue Bossa. I'm thinking playing all from Eb major starting on string 5 sixth fret....any suggestions or comments appreciated!!

Thanks, Sailor.

PS...anyone on the fence....GET A TEACHER!!!
