I've seen so many questions about playing using chord tones. I would really like to help aspiring players get there. I've been playing over 25 years and have cobbled together a couple of books from all the notes I used when I was learning. The things I have in these books will get you there in terms of a great understanding of how to use the major scales and also
chord tones in your soloing and fretboard knowledge. Also a great way I developed that I call the "juxtaposition method" to help keep all of the information organized in your brain.
Using chord tones effectively in your solos is
absolutely essential if you want to have any chance of playing like the greats, Montgomery, Hall, Metheny, Benson, Pass, Scofield, Burell etc.
I was recently looking through all of my notes that I cobbled together over the years when I was learning, and realized it would make some great books for beginning and intermediate players. This information would help alot of players a great deal. So many of the instructional materials/books I've looked through (and that's quite a alot) are heavy on theory but very weak on the practical
application of the technical information. That's a big way where my books will differ from them. I'll keep it light (as much as possible) on confusing cumbersome theory and very strong on the
practical application of the technical information in your playing. Also all examples will be in TAB and also uisng clear fretboard diagrams. Covering scales/modes, substitute scales modes, and chord tones and how to integrate this information into your playing like the Pro's.
I've been negatively effected by this economic downturn so I have to watch expenses right now. The books will be $19.95 and I will need a bare bones minimum of 20-25 people ready to order before I can invest in publishing the books.
This is great stuff laid out in an organized easy to understand format. Just posting this to see if there is enough interest for me to go ahead and publish the information. If so I'll add a page to my website to order the books. If so I'll also add some cool free content to my site for begining/inermediate players to learn from.
For example this guitar solo is comprised almost entirely of playing off of chord tones, as are many of his solos. I will have the information in my books to explain how it's done.
So let me know in this thread if your inerested
