i have been working through leavitt vol 1, and i'm in a bit of a quandry re anchoring. i know this subkect is discussed here loads, so sorry for repetition.
here is how i played a few weeks ago, this felt quite natural for me:
Pretty Pickin pt 1 - YouTube
as you can see, i kept ring and pinkie of rh lightly against scratchplate. not sure if this counts as anchoring. and i didn't worry about it. until, that is, i came across endurance etude (p48), and then the problem was that my fingers would mute top e string, which was supposed to be ringing.
no problem, i thought, time to float. so i curled my rh fingers up, and floated. well, that's quite disorienting to hit the right strings, so i just lightly hovered the heel of my hand around the bridge (not always touching, perhaps a bit like palm muting).
and I spent a couple days in this 'anchor vs float'? quandry.
then i suddenly got rsi, mostly i feel in r thumb, and strongly associated with up strokes. i have a strong suspicion that it has been caused by up strokes in a 'hand-bent back' position (heel contacting bridge).
so i suppose the upshot is that once i recover, i need my 'floating' to 'fly' rather than to 'hover'? or could i continue resting my fingers for orientation, just trying to keep tham away from the e string (small hands, though)?
has anyone else had the same problem - from this or from palm muting?
i do have history of rsi, though tjhis time it feels different from before.
apologies for long post! tia for responses.
