Help Rhythms in Mickey Baker's book

Just a quick question for those of you who have gone through Baker's book 1. I know a lot of folks swear by this book and I feel like I'm finally seeing what his approach is now that I really focused and spent some time on each lesson. Given that many of his chord voicings are pretty new to me, I've focused mostly on fingering. I've largely ignored the rhythm. For example, when he starts explaining intros around lesson 18, he has you playing triplets. Lesson 20 is a a mix of tied eighths, dotted quarters, etc. Mickey doesn't bother explaining his choices. Did you all work through his lessons following the rhythm or did you just work on rhythm with other books and recordings? Thanks!

Keep it simple. Do what he shows.

Good afternoon, mjsarlington...

In case you have missed it, you may be interested in this site...
Michael Joyce's Mickey Baker site
...which has tons of complementary information on this method, and some fine examples to illustrate the lessons. Well worth a look (and thanks to Michael for all the effort...). As for the rhythms to be employed, I rather think that Mr. Baker leaves that up to you; his chords and arrangements can be applied to a great many different styles and songs. Once you have the basic idea, one may find a host of 'standards' and play around with the chords, using the rhythmic of your choice for that particular song.
Hope this helps...

Dad3353, thanks for turning me on to Michael Joyce's site! I just checked it out and think it's going to really complement Mickey's book. I'm at work now but can't wait to get home and review my previous lessons with this new info on hand. Thanks again.
