 Jazz/bossa nova Hey I just bought a $650 flamenco guitar by Cordoba ( if this is not what I need then I can return it). I really want to play jazz on nylon strings like Romero Lubambo and Pat Metheny.. Should I get a flamenco or classical guitar (higher action, more sustain) and should I learn flamenco or classical technique or neither. I'm pretty lost on which path I should take.     |

| check out charlie byrds method for guitar...at mel bay I am sure... I would learn the classical approach as charlie byrd (and I ) did.. time on the instrument..pierre |

| The flamenco guitar will work, though you can skip the flamenco technique. Flamenco guitars are usually more percussive with a quick decay, but they do make hybrid flamenco/classical guitars with rosewood back/sides that have more sustain. You won't need the flamenco techniques unless you want to play traditional Spanish flamenco music. A classical guitar is better suited for the music you like (Brazilian bossa, fingerstyle). |
