D-7(9) (D minor ninth) is D, F, A, C, and E. for different inversions, change which note is in the bass. (F in the bass is 1st inversion, A in the bass is 2nd inversion, etc).

D-6(9) (D minor sixth add nine) is D, F, A, B, E. same principle for inversions.

Think about a minor 6/9 chord as being a triad, ( R-b3-5), with the 6th and 9th added.

A minor 9 chord is just a minor 7 chord, ( R-b3-5-b7), with the 9th added.

The 9 is simply the 2nd note of the scale that you are building the chord from, usually played an octave higher. This holds true with the 11th and 13th as well.

If the scale is D dorian, (the 2nd mode of C major), the notes are:

D, E, F, G, A, B, C

In this case E is the 9th. The same holds true for the 11th and 13th. The 11th is the 4th note, (G), of this scale and the 13th, (B), is the 6th note in D dorian. Make sense?

D-7(9) is a very unusual chord symbol.

That is simple a Dm9, pronounced D minor 9.

A Dm9 already has a minor 7 as part of it's chord tones: D F A C E = R m3 5 m7 9. In practice the 5th is optional as it is an 'unnecessary' chord tone.
