Rookie

Hello everybody. I am far from considering myself a jazz guitar player. I am a sound engineer and play some classical guitar, but have never improvised a single line. I know some theory, I can read music, with the help of tabs usually (Power Tab has been a great help) I know some Harmony (chords structure, etc) but I have no idea,nor the ability to use that theory, scales and modes, in a practical way and how to take this to the guitar Could you give me some advice about where to start? I love to play guitar and it would be really great to build a melody or a song some day. Or maybe you could know a place for beginners?
