Default Beginner song for rock band

Hello,
My friends and I currently play in a rock and roll band. We're all pretty decent (in terms of playing rock), but for fun we'd like to start playing a little jazz. Not at a show or anything, but just fooling around. Could anyone name some beginner tunes? We'd prefer something melodic and easier on the ears than say jazz fusion, but we are open to all suggestions. We basically have a guitarist and bassist, but we'd love to play a horn part or something.

- Thanks, Brett.

i think it would be so cool for a group just starting out with jazz to try "duke's place." the melody is super easy and the chords are only as difficult as you want to make them. it's so fun to play!

by the way, sometimes the tune is called "c jam blues," and it's written by duke ellington.

another superfun tune for jazz beginners is "soul bossa nova," written by quincy jones. (you've probably heard it in the first austin powers movie.) the melody is easy, and you might find that the chords are a wee more sophisticated than what you're used to—but still fun!

free lead sheets can be found online (just google 'em). have fun!

Thanks for all the replies. When I get time after work today I'll sort through the songs. If we get anything going (which I hope we do), I'll post up some recordings for critique if you guys don't mind.

So what and Impressions come to mind. They'll at least force you to play one change!

How about something easy that everyone knows the melody to, like Don't Get Around Much Anymore. I think it has a a nice blues feel that your rock band will immediately understand! It's a great one to play around with, too, I think - each one of your mates can do a question/response bit.

You can play it Swing, or Ballad, or Blues or Bossa etc

It's the first chord melody I play for someone who's not au fait with Jazz and wants to hear my Jazz playing

Hey, first post!
