Help vibrato

Hi,
Obviously in rock/blues guitar playing you hear much vibrato being used. That is, with the fingers as opposed with the vibrato bar (tremolo changes the volume...vibrato changes the pitch) tho the bar is referred as the "whammy bar" or "tremolo bar" some use it for different musical effects i.e. Jeff Beck.
In jazz I don't hear it that much or see it. I am talking about finger vibrato... forget the vibrato bar some rockers (Clapton) don't use it ... the bar if it's there. In jazz, of course, one does not have one of those bars installed ... no way.
My question: Is it used (finger.vibrato) in jazz playing that much?
That technique is not mastered right away .... it takes much time to get it right, and how does one go about it in achieving that vibrato techniques in a jazz context. There is different types of vibrato... fast, slow, wide, etc.
I wasn't sure to ask since this is a jazz forum.
Any feedback, thanks
