 Ornette Coleman in RS Did anyone else happen to read the recent Rolling Stone interview with Ornette Coleman? In the interview Ornette was reported to play a group of 5 or 6 notes for the other musicians, and inquire "what key did you hear that in?" An interesting concept, and perhaps an insight into Ornette's polytonal approach. If you think about it, a C major pentatonic scale could be perceived as being in the keys of C, F or G major or D or A minor. Interesting john     |
